Justus is an amazing dog. He and Tina go everywhere together. He is "bomb proof" around humans meaning he has never disappointed us in any situation we have put him in. Justus has most recently been traveling with Tina to a local nursing homes and elementary schools to spread the lovin. In April of 2007 Justus became a Therapy Dog through Therapy Dog Incorporated. In 2010 at the GSMD Nationals Justus won an Award of Merit, Top Stud Dog, and was the Patriarch of the Winning Generations team which also included Tangee, Millie. On 5-16-08 Justus won Best In Show at the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Nationals in Oxford, OH. We believe this to be one of the greatest honors that can be bestowed on a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. On 5-3-07, Justus won an Award of Merit at the 2007 Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Nationals in St. Louis. Justus did well at the last National he attended in 2005, when he won a 5 point major at the National Cluster (the day after the National).
Justus is on the higher end of the standard as far as height and weight. He is approximately 28" tall at the shoulders and his show weight is 143lbs. Justus has a great deal of bone and muscle. He has a slicker coat then many of the Swissies, we have seen, with his hair length falling on the shorter end of the standard. He has a dark undercoat. Many people remember Justus by his large head, beautiful front end, top line and his "beautiful movement". However Justus will always be referred to as a baby at our house because of his baby face, smile and personality.
Among the Dogs at our home Justus is the Alpha he shared that responsibility with Max until Max's passing Dec. of 2009. Justus watches over six (ish) females. Justus is very laid back (Our kids have given all of our dogs human occupations based on their personalities and appearance) and Justus is apparently a West Coast Surfer/Stripper. Justus has a commanding bark (that you feel in your stomach) which is only heard rarely such as: If the females have found something that has their attention in the back yard or if he hears Tina coming home. Other then that he's just sweet, lovable, quiet Justus.
